American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
Founded in 1942, the association facilitates research, theory development and education. They develop standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.
Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB)
The association of statutorily constituted bodies, legally responsible for the regulation of Marital and Family Therapists. It is organized to facilitate communication among its member boards concerning the regulation of Marital and Family Therapists and to engage in and encourage research on matters related to the legal regulation of Marital and Family Therapists.

NC Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (NCAMFT)
The NCAMFT, a division of AAMFT, is the state advocacy organization for marriage and family therapy professionals. The association and the licensure board are two different entities. Membership in the association is voluntary. The licensure board is a statutory agency.
