Renewal Submission and Processing for the upcoming licensure renewal (due by July 1, 2019) began March 1, 2019. Forms and Instructions are available below. Be sure to check (Verify A License) to determine if you are required to renew by July 1, 2019. If your license expiration date is listed as 2020 or later, then you are not required to submit a renewal this year.
Reminder, the requirement is 20 contact hours of continuing education. At least three of the 20 hours must be ethics training in the provision of professional mental health services. Courses that are generic in nature (not mental health services ethics content) or specific to other licenses or state regulations/laws for states other than North Carolina are not accepted.
IMPORTANT: THE NC MFT LICENSURE BOARD DOES NOT PRE-REVIEW OR PRE-APPROVE CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES OR PROVIDERS. THERFORE, REQUESTS RECEIVED FOR ADVANCE REVIEW OR APPROVAL WILL NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LICENSEE TO ENSURE RENEWAL ON A TIMELY BASIS. THE BOARD’S WEBSITE, WWW.NCLMFT.ORG PROVIDES THE FORMS AND INFORMATION NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE RENEWAL PROCESS. REFER TO THE WEBSITE (Verify A License) OR YOUR LICENSE TO DETERMINE WHEN YOUR FIRST RENEWAL IS REQUIRED. Both on-line and ‘live’ – attending in person, coursework is accepted. There is not a restriction as to whether a course must be live or on-line. But, self-structured courses are not accepted - see below:
Continuing Education credit shall not be accepted for the following: (1) Regular work activities, administrative staff meetings, case staffing or reporting; (2) Membership in, holding office in, or participation on boards or committees, business meetings of professional organizations, or banquet speeches; (3) Independent unstructured or self-structured learning, defined as learning which is undertaken by the licensee without peer or other guidance, review, input, supervision or monitoring; (4) Training related to policies and procedures of an agency; or (5) Non-therapy content programs such as finance or business management.
Incorporation Renewal – You may include that on the license renewal form and the required date for annual renewal of a PC or PLLC has been changed to July 1 (from March 1).
Inactive Status - complete the Inactive License form
